Every month, our clients send us stuff like invoices, receipts and bank statements. We can then post all the transactions into our computer systems, promptly and professionally. The process is simple, efficient and cheap.
In contrast, if the client decides to use excel spreadsheets or accounting software to record his business transactions and send the spreadsheets or backup to his accountant for him to do his year end accounts and tax return, unless the spreadsheets or the accounting data are professionally done, the accounting records given to the accountant will be fraught with errors and as a result the accountant has to spend hours and hours just to identify the errors and make necessary adjustments before he can even start working on the accounts and tax return. What appeared to be a cost savings approach in the first place turns out to be a time consuming one. The accountant then raises a huge bill not for doing what an accountant is supposed to do - doing accounts and tax return, but for doing what a bookkeeper is supposed to do - bookkeeping.
